TD Bank is offering a $300 welcome bonus for opening a personal checking account and using direct deposit within the first 2 months. What's more, you can maximize this promo by also opening a new personal savings account — stacking an extra $200 on top of this offer for a total of $500.

If the $2,500 in direct deposit is too high, they're also running a smaller offer with only a $500 deposit requirement.

While this isn't available nationwide, it is open to a healthy list of states, and is no longer targeted to select customers.

If you're eligible, we definitely recommend claiming this easy bonus.

How To Earn The Bonus

The TD Bank Beyond Checking promotion requires you to set up direct deposits in order to earn the $300 bonus.

Full requirements to receive this bonus are:

  1. Open a TD Beyond Checking account using the link below.
  2. Within 60 days, have a total of $2,500 in direct deposits.
  3. Bonus will be credited no later than 140 days from account opening.

The fine print

  • To qualify, the direct deposit must be a recurring deposit of a paycheck, pension, or government benefits (such as Social Security) electronically deposited by an employer or the government.
  • Once the criteria has been met, the bonus will be credited into the account no later than 140 days from account opening.
  • If the account is closed within 6 months of the account opening, TD will take back the bonus.

Why TD Bank?

TD is the 8th largest bank in the U.S., with more than 1,200 physical locations – primarily in the Eastern states. TD Bank offers straightforward accounts, user-friendly online and mobile banking, and generous customer service hours (including extended branch hours). Their retail investing products under the TD Ameritrade brand are also some of the industry's best-in-class.

On the downside, however, TD Bank's interest rates are low and their fees can be steep (though some are easily waivable, like their monthly maintenance fees, while others offer a couple of reimbursements each year, like their $35 overdraft charge).

If you're located in one of the targeted states (mostly along the East Coast), we definitely recommend their welcome bonuses. The requirements are relatively easy for the cash given, and they regularly offer both checking and savings account promos that you can stack.

Beyond Checking

Beyond Checking is TD Bank's premium checking account. It's interest-earning, offers free ATMs (they waive and reimburse any fees incurred for using non-TD ATMs), an instant-issue debit card, and a maintenance waiver for any linked savings accounts.

As with all TD Bank products, you'll be able to manage your account online or using their mobile app, or get in-person service if you live near a branch.

Fees

Beyond Checking does charge a monthly fee of $25, but there are ways to get this waived:

  • $5,000 or more in direct deposits within a statement cycle
  • OR, $2,500 minimum daily balance is maintained
  • OR, $25,000 minimum daily combined balance of all deposit accounts, all outstanding home equity loan and home equity line of credit accounts, and/or mortgages in good standing (excludes credit cards and personal loans) that you choose to link
