HSBC is offering $500 for opening a new Fusion Professional business checking account. This is $100 more than when it was previouly offered. The requirements aren't the easiest we've seen and you'll need to open the account by phone or in-branch, but the bonus is one of the few business checking account promos available nationwide, so it may still be worthwhile for you.

HSBC is also running smaller welcome bonuses for their other business checking accounts (with lower requirements), so be sure to understand which is the right one for your company before opting into any.

How To Earn The Bonus

The HSBC Fusion Professional promotion requires you to deposit and maintain a minimum balance, and optionally, make purchases using the account's debit card and set up bill pay in order to earn the $500 bonus. Full requirements to receive this bonus are:

  1. Open an HSBC Fusion Professional checking account using the link below.
  2. Within 60 days, deposit $75,000 and maintain the balance for 90 days.
  3. Within 90 days, complete 10 qualifying transactions (debit card purchases, write or deposit a check, ACH debits and credits, incoming and outgoing Real-Time Payments or wires)

The fine print

  • HSBC Fusion accounts serve business that are U.S. based and have annual sales up to $5 million, including start-ups.
  • The welcome bonus will deposit into your account about 8 weeks after all qualifying activities are met.
  • The deposit required must be in new money, which means you cannot transfer from an existing HSBC account.
  • The offer is only available in a U.S. HSBC branch.
  • Customers who held any HSBC business account (including but not limited to loans and credit cards) from April 30, 2018 through and including April 30, 2021 are not eligible.
  • If you change to, or subsequently open an additional product with a higher or lower balance requirement, you will receive the bonus that corresponds to the initial product you opened.
  • If you open more than one HSBC business checking account and close the first HSBC business checking account within the requirement period, you will not be eligible for the bonus.
  • Your HSBC business checking account (Fusion First, Fusion Smart or Fusion Professional Account) must be in good standing at time of gift fulfillment.

Why HSBC Bank?

The American subsidiary of HSBC Bank is based out of New York City and has 160 branches in 10 states. Most of HSBC's brick and mortar banks are located in the NYC area, but they also have a presence in Los Angeles, Miami, and Washington, D.C. HSBC offers deposit accounts, personal and home loans, investment and retirement accounts, and credit cards.

Since 2005, HSBC has also been operating an online-only platform called HSBC Direct, which includes high yield checking, savings, and Certificate of Deposit accounts — all online or from your smartphone.

Overall, HSBC isn't our top pick if you're shopping for a new bank. With so few physical branches, you should consider them an online bank – but with worse rates, higher fees, and lagging tech. On the pro side, however, they consistently offer sign up bonuses (though many of which you'll need to claim in-branch). If you're eligible, we certainly recommend claiming the free cash – but otherwise stick to a different bank as your primary account.

Fusion Professional
