Credit Pull?

American Eagle Financial Credit Union is offering $200 to new checking account customers. This is an increase since it was offered last Fall. You'll need to meet membership eligibility requirements (which includes also opening a Membership Savings account with $5) in addition to the checking account requirements of direct deposit and debit card transactions.

This offer applies to both of their free checking accounts: Everyday Checking and Student Checking. Keep in mind that the Student Checking account requires you to go in-branch to open.

American Eagle has offered a similar checking account bonus in the past with the same requirements, but also offered $50 less.

How To Earn The Bonus

The American Eagle FCU Personal Checking promotion requires you to set up direct deposits and make purchases using the account's card in order to earn the $200 bonus.

Full requirements to receive this bonus are:

  1. Open a new Everyday Checking or Student Checking account using the link below.
  2. Within 60 days, receive direct deposits totaling $500.
  3. Within the same 60 days, make 10 debit card purchases (signature or pin-based).
  4. Bonus will be credited to your Membership Savings account within 120 days of account opening.

Why American Eagle Financial Credit Union?

Everyday Checking

A free checking account with just a $1 minimum balance requirement.

Using your debit card earns cash back to a charity chosen by members (through the website and social media), which is a neat way to actively give back to the community just by spending on things you would already.

Fees

Everyday Checking does not charge a monthly fee.

Student Checking

A checking account very similar to their Everyday Checking, but geared for students ages 13-22.

There's no monthly fee, and the account also has a minimum balance of just $1. Unfortunately, this account can't be opened online – you'll instead need to find a branch.

Fees

Student Checking does not charge a monthly fee.

How to Join American Eagle Financial Credit Union

Credit unions differ from banks in that they restrict membership based on a shared common bond, or the credit union’s “field of membership”.

That means in order to qualify for this bonus (or any offer from a credit union), you'll first need to meet American Eagle FCU's membership requirements:

  • Live, work, worship, or attend school in Hartford, Middlesex, Tolland, or New Haven County in Connecticut, and Hampden County, Massachusetts.
  • Have an immediate family member who's an American Eagle FCU member
  • Live in the same household as a current American Eagle FCU member.

Keep in mind that nearly all credit unions have a "once a member, always a member" policy, so once you're in, the above restrictions no longer apply.

American Eagle Financial Credit Union Locations

Credit unions are community-based, and a lot of the time this means they serve a specific geographic footprint.

Sometimes eligibility requirements will mean that you need to live, work, or worship in that area to become a member. Other times, you may be required to visit a branch in-person to take advantage of a welcome offer. Or, you may just prefer the convenience of banking with institutions that have locations near you.

American Eagle Financial Credit Union has a total of 21 branches in the United States.
