UFirst Credit Union is offering up to $400 to new members who open a personal checking account. The bonus is structured a little differently than others. Instead of a single set of requirements, UFirst has both a direct deposit requirement and a debit card requirement, and each will earn you $50 per month, for up to 3 months. On top of that, they'll give you $50 just for opening the account and another $50 for keeping it 6 months.
While that may initially sound confusing, the requirements are flexible and actually pretty easy – especially considering the potential for a total bonus of $400.
Keep in mind that each requirement (direct deposit and debit card transactions) run independently of each other, but that the 3 months of meeting either need to be consecutive. In other words, if you meet the direct deposit requirement in March to earn $50, you must meet it again in April and May to earn the full $150. If you miss the requirement in April, further eligibility is forfeited. The debit card transaction requirement, however, will not be impacted.
What's more? Open an Auto Loan for an additional $100 bonus, bringing the total to $500!
How To Earn The Bonus
The UFirst CU Personal Checking promotion requires you to optionally, set up eligible direct deposits and make purchases using the account's card in order to earn the up to $400 bonus (step-by-step breakdown is listed above!).
As with any offer, don't forget to read the fine print before opening your new account. It's where the credit union will clearly state who is eligible for the deal along with any nuances you'll want to be aware of.
The fine print
- Promotion is for new members, ages 18 and above only.
- Account must be in good standing for the duration of the promotion.

How to Join UFirst Credit Union
Credit unions differ from banks in that they restrict membership based on a shared common bond, or the credit union’s “field of membership”.
That means in order to qualify for this bonus (or any offer from a credit union), you'll first need to meet one of UFirst CU's membership requirements:
- Live, work, go to school, worship or volunteer in Salt Lake, Davis, Summit, Tooele, Wasatch Counties in Utah.
- Have an immediate family member who is a member of UFirst Credit Union
Keep in mind that nearly all credit unions have a "once a member, always a member" policy, so once you're in, the above restrictions no longer apply.
