Available in Minnesota (or Nationwide via a donation to the Expedition Foundation), Expedition Credit Union is offering a $200 welcome bonus when you open a new personal checking account and set up direct deposit. What's even more? If you opt for the Cash Back Checking account, you can earn up to $10 in cash back per month on debit card purchases.
How To Earn The Bonus
The Expedition Credit Union Rewards Checking promotion requires you to set up eligible direct deposits in order to earn the $200 bonus (step-by-step breakdown is listed above!).
As with any offer, don't forget to read the fine print before opening your new account. It's where the credit union will clearly state who is eligible for the deal along with any nuances you'll want to be aware of.
The fine print
- Offer not valid for those who have or had a checking account with Expedition Credit Union in the last twelve (12) months.
- Direct deposits include deposits from payroll, pension payment, social security, or other government payments from an outside employer or outside agency (branch deposits, Shared Branch deposits, bank-to-bank transfers, mobile deposits, ATM deposits, or person-to-person transactions do not qualify)
- Expedition reserves the right to terminate bonus payout if the qualifications are not met, the account is not in good standing, or if the account does not remain open for at least six (6) months.
- Limit of one account per Member may be included in promotion
Open a Rewards Checking account before the bonus expires on December 31, 2024

How to Join Expedition Credit Union
Credit unions differ from banks in that they restrict membership based on a shared common bond, or the credit union’s “field of membership”.
That means in order to qualify for this bonus (or any offer from a credit union), you'll first need to meet one of Expedition Credit Union's membership requirements:
- Live, work, worship, go to school or do business in the following Minnesota counties: Anoka, Dakota, Hennepin, Ramsey, Washington
- Belong to select Education Associations and Groups: Education Minnesota members and Employees; Minnesota school staff members and administrators belonging to their state or national organization (including but not limited to: MSEA, MESPA, MASSP, MNSAA, MASA); National Education Association Minnesota field service employees, in the state of Minnesota; School District 283 of St. Louis Park
- Everyone related to a current member by blood, adoption, or marriage
- Employees of Educators Financial Services, Inc. and St. Louis Park City Employees.
- Nationwide via members to the Expedition Foundation
Keep in mind that nearly all credit unions have a "once a member, always a member" policy, so once you're in, the above restrictions no longer apply.

April 29I applied online, but was rejected the next business day "Due to ChexSystems." I assume this means I've opened too many checking accounts for them.

April 6I am not seeing the option to donate to the Expedition Foundation, and when I click on apply, it does not show up as a valid organization to qualify me as a member
