Fifth Third Bank has upped their personal checking account bonus -- this is the highest we've seen from them!
You can open the account online through the promotion's landing page, or choose instead to enter your email address to receive a unique code that you can take into your local branch.
Another perk? Users report receiving their bonus just days after the qualifying deposit is posted. Be sure to signup early though, as we've seen them pull their offer as it gets closer to the deadline.
How To Earn The Bonus
The Fifth Third Bank Personal Checking promotion requires you to set up eligible direct deposits in order to earn the $400 bonus (step-by-step breakdown is listed above!).
As with any offer, don't forget to read the fine print before opening your new account. It's where the bank will clearly state who is eligible for the deal along with any nuances you'll want to be aware of.
The fine print
- The $400 checking bonus does not require any additional activities.
- A qualifying Direct Deposit is an Automated Clearing House (ACH) credit, which may include payroll, pension or government payments (such as Social Security).
- In order to receive the cash bonus, your checking account must be open and in good standing.
- Offer is not available to existing Fifth Third checking customers or to those with a Fifth Third Checking account that has been closed within the last 13 months.
- Bank reserves the right to limit each customer to one new account-related gift incentive per calendar year.
- Eligibility may be limited based on your account type and ownership role.
- Account must be funded within 45 days of account opening.
- No minimum deposit required to open a checking account.
- Bonus may be taxable as interest income and reported on IRS Form 1099-INT. Consult your tax advisor.
- UNIQUE OFFER CODE MUST BE PRESENTED AT ACCOUNT OPENING TO RECEIVE THE BONUS. See your banker for details.
- Not valid with any other offer.

How does this personal checking offer from Fifth Third Bank compare?
To help you determine how this bonus stacks against the rest, here are some of the most popular offers available right now:
Why Fifth Third Bank?
Fifth Third Bank is a regional bank offering a full suite of products to both personal and business customers. They are headquartered in Ohio, with more than 1,100 branches across the Midwest, South and Southeast.
Their basic accounts have reasonable (and waivable) monthly fees, but keep in mind that their other fees can be steep and Fifth Third's savings rates are laughably low.
That said, if you're in one of the 10 states that Fifth Third does business, you could benefit from the great sign-up bonuses that the bank consistently offers. Particularly on the personal side, Fifth Third Bank's checking account offers are some of the most competitive when you consider the requirements-to-reward.

November 17, 2023I've gotten multiple bonuses from this bank, one of the most best bonus programs I've participated in, because you can keep coming back! I did need to go to the bank in person to open it one of the times, as I couldn't get fully approved online, but it was close to home.

November 13, 2023I've gotten 3 bonuses from Fifth Third in 3 years. Their bonuses are generous, easy to get, and they allow you to qualify again after 12 months closed. This ability to "rinse and repeat" makes them one of the most generous bank bonus programs I've participated in.

November 13, 2023Opening this account was very easy since I've had a 5/3 account in the past. It filled in all my information when I opened the account

November 6, 202353rd offers the $325 bonus with a simple $500 direct deposit within 90 days. There’s no minimum balance, no monthly fees. It was initially hard for me to open (they made me come into a branch), but i think it can all be done online now! Easy to open, and easy to close if you eventually need to.

November 5, 2023I completely agree with Wayne. I've done a bonus from Fifth Third 8 times. Super easy and DD is quite easy to manage. I've used USAA, Wells Fargo, and Lending Club brokerage. There's also a 5/3 credit card bonus for a cherry on top!

November 3, 2023P2 and I have gotten this bonus 3 times each. Very easy to fulfill direct deposit requirements. Chase, Schwab, and Wells Fargo have worked for us. I recommend open this, qualify and close in 3-6 months. It'll come around next year and you can qualify again.

September 12 Replying to WayneHello Wayne, I came across your review online and I'm interested in this bank, especially the Momentum Checking account. Could you let me know if there is a lot of documentation required to open this account? Also, I’m curious about direct deposits specifically, can I use ACH transfer deposits from another bank account? Thanks for your help!
