The fine print
- Closing the account within 6 months of opening will incur an Early Account Closing fee.
- Deposit must be in "new money" – in other words, it has to be from an account outside of Huntington to qualify.
- This offer is only available to new personal checking customers. All existing Huntington checking customers, including those with any relationship (including fiduciary) to any other Huntington checking account, or those who closed a checking account within the last six months, are not eligible.
- Qualifying direct deposits are regular, periodic automated clearing house (ACH) credits, which may include payroll, salary, pension or government payments (such as Social Security). Payments through the Real-Time Payments (RTP) network, and payments through peer-to-peer networks such as PayPal, Zelle, Venmo or others do not qualify as direct deposits.

November 17, 2023I've received 2 bonuses from this bank - for $150, and then in early 2023 for $400 - so this current $400 offer is generous. They allow you to open a new account after 6 months, which is the shortest period of time for that I've seen! For the first account my college-aged daughter also opened an account for her summer job paychecks, and earned $150. She had to open her account in person at a branch as it wouldn't go through online.

November 16, 2023This bank allows repeat bonuses. I've now opened and closed accounts 2 times, for $250, and $400 bonuses. I couldn't open the account online - I had to take my documents into the branch near me to finish the application. But for $400...ok with me. I did have to keep $5,000 in for about 3 months to avoid fees. Had to do a deposit every month, watch that too. Had to close via phone (no online option).
