Renewed for 2025 (with a few tweaks), PSECU is offering up to $300 to new members who open a personal checking account and complete direct deposit and debit card requirements.
Something else to keep in mind: if you have ties with any of the PA entities that PSECU has a relationship with, you can join outright. But if not, you can still gain eligibility by joining Pennsylvania Recreation and Park Society (PRPS) through PSECU. For more information, read the eligibility requirements section below.
How To Earn The Bonus
The PSECU Checking Account promotion requires you to optionally, set up eligible direct deposits in order to earn the up to $300 bonus (step-by-step breakdown is listed above!).
As with any offer, don't forget to read the fine print before opening your new account. It's where the credit union will clearly state who is eligible for the deal along with any nuances you'll want to be aware of.
The fine print

- Limit one (1) new member bonus per tax identification number used to open a new PSECU account.
- You will not be eligible for the bonus if you are a current PSECU member, have closed an account within the past 12 months, or have received any new member incentive bonus within the past 12 months.
- Direct deposit must be a paycheck, social security payment, or pension payment.
- Qualifying payroll direct deposits are defined as paychecks, Social Security payments, and pension payments.
- There's a path for everyone to join PSECU.
- Employees, agents and officials of PSECU, and immediate family members of any of these are not eligible for this promotion.

- $5 is required to open and maintain a Regular share account. This $5 share deposit is also required to be eligible to receive the $300, and the member must be in good standing as defined by PSECU's Bylaws Article II, Section 1.
- A $5 minimum share purchase will be made on behalf of the new member by PSECU. If the member account is closed within the first year of membership, the initial $5 share will be retained by PSECU.
- Withdrawals and fees may reduce earnings on the account.
- The recipient of the bonus (up to $300) is solely responsible for payment of applicable taxes on that amount. If you have any questions, please seek the advice of a qualified tax professional.

How to Join Pennsylvania State Employees Credit Union
Credit unions differ from banks in that they restrict membership based on a shared common bond, or the credit union’s “field of membership”.
That means in order to qualify for this bonus (or any offer from a credit union), you'll first need to meet one of PSECU's membership requirements:
- Reside with, or have a relative who is a PSECU member.
- Currently attend, have attended, graduated from or work at a Pennsylvania colleges or universities.
- Work for PA state or local governments, Municipalities and school districts, or Select Employee Groups (SEGS)
- Become a member of the Pennsylvania Recreation and Park Society (PSECU will cover the $20 fee when you open your PSECU account online).
Keep in mind that nearly all credit unions have a "once a member, always a member" policy, so once you're in, the above restrictions no longer apply.

November 14, 2023It was a hard credit pull for me. The application process was easy. Can fund the account with a credit card up to $100. I used a Visa.

November 6, 2023The instructions for opening this account are more complicated than the actual opening of the account was. A few hoops to jump through, but just direct deposit $200 cumulative/month for 90 days and you’ll get the bonus. No minimum balance; no maintenance fees.

November 6, 2023This just doesn't seem worth it because of the hard credit pull. There are so many other bonuses that don't require this, so I don't know why this bank insists.
