Delta Skymiles® American Express Changes: February 1, 2024

Changes were made today, February 1, 2024 to the co-branded Delta Skymiles® American Express cards.

Here are the key updates and additions to both the personal and business Delta Skymiles® American Express cards.

I’ve provided the previous public offer terms as well as the updated bullet points to help compare what has changed.

Keep in mind that some of the benefits (ie the companion certificate), may only apply to new cardholders or current cardholders that receive the perk from today forward. Please comment below if you receive a companion certificate after today and are allowed to use it on the updated destinations.

Updated Benefit: SkyClub Guest Vouchers

Each year Delta Reserve cardholders receive 2 one-time use vouchers that can be used to get guests complimentary visits to the Delta SkyClubs.

Starting now, upon card renewal, Delta Reserve cardholders receive 4 one-time use guest pass for complimentary access to the Delta Sky Club.

You can find these in your Delta Wallet under Certificates, eCredits, and Vouchers, typically within 1 – 4 weeks. These expire within one year from the date of issuance.

Updated Benefit: Companion Certificate

It appears that the companion certificates were overhauled for both the personal and business Delta Skymiles® Platinum and Delta Skymiles® Reserve Amex Cards.

Most importantly, the destinations! They have appeared to remove the exclusions to Hawaii and Alaska for mainland customers. They’ve also updated to include select Caribbean and Central American destinations.

These include: United States, Puerto Rico, USVI, Mexico, Antigua, Aruba, Bermuda, Bonaire, Grand Cayman, Cuba, Jamaica, Bahamas, Turks and Caicos, Dominican Republic, Saint Kitts, St. Maarten, St. Lucia, Costa Rica, Belize, Guatemala, Panama, Honduras, and El Salvador

One very important thing to note is that this appears to only apply to *NEWLY ISSUED* certificates. Current certificate holders are bound by the terms and conditions attached to those certs. For example, mine still have the old language:

New Benefit: Delta Stays Credit

All the Delta Skymiles® Amex cards (ok, not the Blue card, but does that really count?) received a new perk for utilizing Delta Stays.

Delta is really pushing this product hard, offering up to $250 in statement credits depending on which card you have when you use an eligible card to book a prepaid hotels or vacation rental on Delta Stays. See cards above to learn how much in credits you can receive.

This is a “calendar year” benefit based on when your purchase posts to your account.

Bookings from both primary and authorize user cardholders will chip away at the credit. Bookings through Delta Vacations and products other than prepaid hotels and vacation rentals booked through Delta Stays will not qualify for statement credits.

Learn more about the Delta Stays credit benefit below.

New Benefit: Resy Credits

Both the personal and business versions of the Delta Skymiles® Platinum and Delta Skymiles® Reserve Amex cards received a new perk today.

The amount of credit you will receive depends on which card you have (up to $120 for Platinum variants and up to $240 for Reserve variants).

When the Primary cardholder or AU make purchases at U.S. restaurants that offer reservations on Resy.com and the Resy app, or purchases made directly on Resy.com or in the Resy app the card account will receive a credit (up to $10 per month for Delta Skymiles® Platinum cardholders, or up to $20 per month for Delta Skymiles® Reserve cardholders).

Restaurants must be live on Resy.com< or the Resy app at time of purchase to be eligible for the statement credit. Purchases made via Resy Pay and purchases of Resy OS restaurant management software are not eligible.

The way I read this, as long as you use your card to pay at a restaurant that is on Resy, you will receive the credit(s). Keep in mind, you MUST enroll in this offer to receive it.

Learn more about the Resy credit benefit below.

New Benefit: Rideshare Credits

Cardholders of the Delta Skymiles® Reserve and Delta Skymiles® Platinum Amex cards, including both consumer and business variants will receive up to $120 in rideshare credits starting today.

Each eligible card will receive up to $10 per month in statement credits when they make purchase in the U.S. with the following rideshare services: Uber, Lyft, Curb, Revel, and Alto.

Purchased by both the Primary and any Authorized users will count toward this $10 monthly credit amount.

Sadly, unlike my Amex Platinum and Amex Gold card Uber credits, food delivery services like Uber Eats aren’t eligible.

Learn more about the Rideshare credit benefit below.

New Benefit: MQD Headstart

Cardholders of the Delta Skymiles® Reserve and Delta Skymiles® Platinum Amex cards, including both consumer and business variants will receive $2,500 MQDs just for being a cardholder.

That is per card, but only 1 of each type. If you have all 4 variants (platinum and reserve consumer and business) that’s a total of $10,000 MQDs; however, if you have 3 Delta Skymiles® Reserve business cards you’ll only receive 1 $2,500 MQD bonus. Also, before anyone asks, upgrading cards mid-year will not let you “double dip” on MQD headstart bonuses.

MQDs are valuable since this is the sole metric for Medallion status going forward.

It doesn’t matter when you signup, as long as you obtain or have the card any point during the calendar year, you’ll earn the headstart bonus for that Medallion year.

Authorized users do not receive this benefit, just the Primary cardholders.

For those interested, my MQD Headstarts hit this morning as well.

New Benefit: Complimentary Upgrades for Skymiles Platinum Cardholders

Delta Skymiles® Platinum personal and business cardholders previously were not considered for complimentary upgrades.

This has changed.

Now, SkyMiles Members with a Delta SkyMiles Platinum Card, personal or business, are eligible for unlimited Complimentary Upgrades to First Class and Delta Comfort+®. They can also receive day-of-departure Unlimited Complimentary Upgrades to the Delta One® experience on flights within the U.S. 50 – including flights to Hawaii.

Previously this benefit was only for Medallion members and Reserve cardholders. It’s worth noting that Platinum cardholders are below Reserve cardholders at the bottom of the priority order, so upgrades will likely be very rare.

Complimentary Upgrades for Platinum Card Members may clear beginning 24 hours (1 day) prior to departure, after all Medallion Members and Reserve Card Members, and are subject to upgrade availability.

$100 Flight Credit and additional $1,000 MQD Bonus for current Delta Skymiles® Reserve cardholders

Current Delta Skymiles® Reserve personal and business cardholders also received an email this morning letting us know of another solid perk.

A one-time $100 flight credit AND an additional $1,000 MQD bonus, on top of the $2,500 MQD headstart bonus we already received.

The $100 flight credit will drop around April 2, 2024, but unsure on when we’ll see the $1,000 (hasn’t posted to my account yet).

Also, haven’t received any emails for my other Delta Amex cards regarding any additional current cardholder perks they may be receiving along these lines.

Amex Terms and Conditions (From the Source)

I’m providing select portions of the terms and conditions from Amex since many hate reading the whole document to find what they need.

  • See more below

Verbatim (Delta Skymiles® Reserve Shown below, Platinum variants are similar just lower amount)

Enrollment is required to receive this benefit. Only the Basic Card Member or Authorized Account Manager(s) on a Delta SkyMiles Reserve and Reserve Business American Express Card Account can enroll in the benefit. Please note, enrollment may take up to 24 hours to take effect on your Card. Enrolled Basic Card Members can earn up to $20 in statement credits each month when the Basic Card or an Additional Card on the enrolled Account is used to pay for eligible Resy purchases. Eligible Resy purchases can be made by both the Basic Card Member and Additional Card Members on the enrolled Card Account. However, the total amount of statement credits for eligible Resy purchases will not exceed $20 per month, for a total of $240 per calendar year in statement credits, per Card Account.

Eligible Resy purchases include purchases at U.S. restaurants that offer reservations on Resy.com and the Resy app, and purchases made directly on Resy.com or in the Resy app. Restaurants must be live on Resy.com or the Resy app at time of purchase to be eligible for the statement credit and are subject to change at any time. Purchases made via Resy Pay and purchases of Resy OS restaurant management software are not eligible.

Please allow 6-8 weeks after an eligible Resy purchase is charged to the enrolled Card Account for statement credit(s) to be posted to the Account. Please call the number on the back of the Card if statement credits have not posted after 8 weeks from the date of purchase. American Express relies on the merchant’s processing of transactions to determine the transaction date. The transaction date may differ from the date you made the purchase if, for example, there is a delay in the merchant submitting the transaction to us or if the merchant uses another date as the transaction date. This means that in some cases your purchase may not earn the statement credit benefit for the benefit period in which you made the purchase. For example, if an eligible purchase is made on December 31st but the merchant processes the transaction such that it is identified to us as occurring on January 1st, the January statement credit would be applied. Transactions received more than 120 days from the transaction date will not be considered eligible Resy purchases.

If American Express does not receive information that identifies the transaction as an eligible Resy purchase, the Basic Card Member will not receive the statement credit. For example, the transaction may not be eligible if it is not made directly with the merchant, if it is made at a merchant located within another establishment (e.g. a restaurant inside a hotel or department store), or if it is for a non-dining purchase (e.g. merchandise or gift card). Only one statement credit per transaction will be issued. In addition, in most cases, Basic Card Members may not receive the statement credit if the transaction is made with an electronic wallet or through a third party (such as an app store) or if the merchant uses a mobile or wireless card reader to process it.

To be eligible for this benefit, Card Account(s) must not be canceled and not past due at the time of statement credit fulfillment. If American Express, in its sole discretion, determines that you have engaged in or intend to engage in any manner of abuse, misuse, or gaming in connection with this benefit, American Express will not have an obligation to provide statement credits and may reverse any statement credits provided to you. If you are enrolled in the benefit and replace your Card, please check the Benefits section of your americanexpress.com account, mobile app or call the number on the back of your Card to confirm your continued enrollment in the benefit. For additional information, call the number on the back of your Card.

Enrollment through American Express is required to receive this benefit. Only Basic Delta SkyMiles Reserve and Reserve Business American Express Card Members or Authorized Account Manager(s) can enroll in the benefit in the Benefits section of their americanexpress.com online account or by calling the number on the back of their Card. Please note, enrollment may take up to 24 hours to take effect on your Card. Enrolled Basic Card Members can earn up to $10 in statement credits per month when the Basic Card or Additional Cards on the enrolled Account are used to make eligible purchases in the U.S. with the following rideshare services: Uber, Lyft, Curb, Revel, and Alto, which are subject to change. However, each enrolled Card Account is only eligible for up to $10 in statement credits per month, for a total of up to $120 per calendar year, per Card Account.

Eligible purchases are for goods and services minus returns and other credits. Eligible purchases do NOT include fees or interest charges, purchases of traveler’s checks, purchases or reloading of prepaid cards, purchases of gift cards, person-to-person payments, or purchases of any cash equivalents. Eligible purchases do not include delivery services (for example, food, packages, groceries, pet food, toys or retail clothing), bikeshare, scooter, car rental, transit, membership, or any other non-rideshare services offered by the rideshare providers. Please allow 6 to 8 weeks after an eligible purchase is charged to the enrolled Card Account for statement credit(s) to be posted to the Account. Please call the number on the back of the Card if statement credits have not posted after 8 weeks from the date of purchase. Statement credits may not be received or may be reversed if the purchase is cancelled or modified.

American Express also relies on information provided to us by the merchant to identify eligible purchases. If American Express does not receive information that identifies the transaction as an eligible purchase, the Basic Card Member will not receive the statement credit. In most cases, the Basic Card Member may not receive the statement credit if the transaction is made with an electronic wallet or through a third party or if the merchant uses a mobile or wireless card reader to process it.

To be eligible for this benefit, the Card Account must not be canceled or past due at the time of statement credit fulfillment. Eligible Delta Stays Booking does not include interest charges, cancellation fees, property fees, resort fees, or other similar fees, or any charges by a property to you (whether for your booking, your stay or otherwise).
